History and operations ## About the airline iFly ### History and development iFly was founded in 2009 and is based in Vnukovo, Moscow. Until 2020, charter flights to tourist resorts were the basis of its work; later, the company developed cargo and regular domestic transportation. The first flight of iFly departed from Vnukovo to Antalya in December 2009. In the future, the company performed charters for tourist destinations and gradually expanded the use of wide-body aircraft. The company received the certificate of operator in the fall of 2009, and the first passenger flight was performed on December 4. A few years later, iFly went beyond resort charters: in 2015, there were regular lines from Moscow to Chinese cities. Initially, iFly was associated with travel to foreign resorts. Then the geography became wider: in 2015, the carrier opened regular lines from Moscow to Chinese cities, and later operated flights to Sanya from Zhukovsky. After 2020, the business structure changed again: cargo tasks and a greater emphasis on domestic routes appeared. For a relatively short history, iFly changed its specialization several times. The company started with international tourist charters, then opened regular flights to China, and after 2020 it also engaged in cargo transportation. In the 2020s, domestic lines became more important than the previous resort program; therefore, the old lists of destinations quickly lose relevance. #### Milestones - October 2009: The airline received an air operator certificate. - December 2009: The first passenger flight left Vnukovo for Antalya. - 2015: regular flights from Moscow to several cities in China appeared in the schedule. - Since 2020, the company began to develop cargo flights along with passenger transportation. - In the 2020s, the profile shifted from international tourist charters to domestic lines. ### Route networks Until 2020, the program was based on international tourist charters. Then the carrier developed a cargo direction; since 2022, the official description of iFly indicates regular domestic flights. The route network changed along with the business profile. Instead of the previous geography of resort charters, there were, in particular, lines between the Far East and Sochi; actual flights depend on the current schedule. The Chinese direction was a prominent part of iFly’s historical geography, but later the job profile changed. In the 2020s, the company developed freight and domestic flights, and the previous map of tourist charters no longer describes its current program. The flight geography of iFly depended on the format of the work. The charter flight is connected with the tourist season and the customer, and the regular flight is published in the schedule for independent purchase. Chinese cities and Antalya belong to different periods of the company, while later internal lines appeared between Moscow, the Far East and the resorts of Russia. ### Aircraft and features The basis of the fleet was the wide-body Airbus A330-200 and A330-300. Their capacity and range were suitable for both tourist flights and subsequent tasks of the company. The change of routes does not mean an automatic change of aircraft: the A330 remained a recognizable type of iFly at different periods of its history. The specific modification and layout of the cabin should still be checked on the flight. On the Airbus A330, the carrier used different versions of the cabin and paint. In 2021, the A330-300 was introduced in an updated livery; the type itself remained the basis of the company's long-haul and capacious flights. The wide-body Airbus A330 is well suited for long flights with large passenger traffic, but its use is not limited to tourist charters. In different years, iFly used the A330-200 and A330-300, changed the color and configuration of the boards. Therefore, photos of the old livery or previous resort routes do not give a complete picture of the current program of the company. Airbus A330 is a large twin-engine aircraft for long-haul routes. He gave iFly the opportunity to work with a large number of passengers in tourist destinations and use the wide-body park in other programs. The different sides could differ in modification, livery and interior; a photo of one aircraft does not describe the entire history of the fleet.
