History and operations

## About the airline Yakutia

### History and development

Yakutia Airlines was established in 2002 on the basis of two regional carriers - SakhaAvia and Yakut Airlines. The first flight under the new brand took place in January 2003 on the route Yakutsk - Moscow.

Aviation of the republic is older than the company itself: the first flights over Yakutia date back to 1925. Yakutia continued this regional tradition, but as a separate carrier appeared only at the beginning of the XXI century.

The merger of two local airlines in 2002 allowed to assemble a larger regional carrier. For the republic, this was important: its capital should be connected with both remote areas and large transport hubs of the country.

Civil aviation of Yakutia has almost a century of history, but the company Yakutia appeared only in 2002. The merger of SakhaAvia and Yakut Airlines has created a carrier capable of connecting the republic with major cities of the country. In 2016, the company also received a controlling stake in Polar Airlines, which operate in local northern destinations.

The plane in Yakutia has long performed a role that goes beyond the usual trip between major cities. The history of local aviation began in the 1920s, and in the 21st century the new carrier combined the capabilities of the two former companies. The connection with Polar Airlines shows that the main and local flights in the republic are closely interrelated.

#### Milestones

- 1925: The first pages of the history of civil flights on the territory of Yakutia belong to this year.
- 2002: SakhaAvia and Yakut Airlines formed a new regional carrier.
- 2003: the first flight under the new brand connected Yakutsk and Moscow.
- 2013: Superjet 100 for the first time performed a passenger flight between Yakutsk and Khabarovsk.
- 2016: Yakutia acquired almost the entire package of Polar Airlines, another important carrier of the republic.

### Route networks

The company connects the capital of the republic with the cities of Siberia, the Far East and the European part of Russia. For the aviation of Yakutia, long distances, the northern climate and the connection of remote settlements are especially important.

The regional network includes not only flights outside the republic, but also messages inside Yakutia. In the conditions of the Far North, air transport often reduces travel between settlements separated by long distances.

Routes of "Yakutia" combine long-haul flights from Yakutsk with communication within the republic. The size of the territory and the harsh climate make the schedule especially dependent on the conditions at the airports, so for a trip to the northern point it is worth checking the connections in advance.

Routes within the Republic of Sakha differ from the Yakutsk-Moscow or Yakutsk-Khabarovsk lines in terms of distance, passenger traffic and airport equipment. That is why one model of the aircraft for the entire program is not enough. International and Far Eastern destinations complement domestic traffic, allowing passengers to exit the regional network to larger transport hubs.

### Aircraft and features

For different lines, the carrier needs aircraft of different capacity and range: the Superjet 100, Boeing 737 and the Dash 8 turboprop are presented in the collection. The purpose of a particular model depends on the route and schedule.

Unlike a single fleet of some carriers, Yakutia uses several classes of aircraft. For northern routes, the choice of the board is related not only to the number of passengers, but also to the length of the line and the capabilities of the arrival airport.

In January 2013, the airline performed the first passenger flight on the Superjet 100 between Yakutsk and Khabarovsk. The appearance of this type complemented the Boeing 737 and turboprop aircraft used for lines of different lengths.

The mixed park reflects the different needs of the region. The Boeing 737 is suitable for connections between major airports, the Superjet 100 is suitable for lower-flow lines, and turboprop aircraft can be used where the main liner is redundant. In the North, the choice of type is influenced not only by the number of passengers and distance, but also by the characteristics of the airfield.

The first Superjet 100 "Yakutia" entered the passenger route in 2013. Together with the Boeing 737 and turboprops, it filled the gap between large and local lines. It is important for the reader to distinguish between the types in the history of the company and the aircraft specified in the ticket: the choice depends on the specific airport, loading and season.
