TERM · Aerodynamics

At a glance

## Meaning of Drag

The aerodynamic force opposing an aircraft's movement through the air.

### More about Drag

Drag has several components, including those associated with shape, surface friction and lift production.

Its magnitude changes with speed, configuration and operating conditions. Flaps, landing gear and other exposed surfaces can increase drag; the resulting force must be considered alongside lift, thrust and weight.
