An instrument landing system providing precise approach guidance.

An ILS normally supplies lateral guidance from the localiser and vertical guidance from the glide slope.

Equipment, procedure category and operating conditions determine its permitted use. ILS guidance does not automatically mean an aircraft will land itself; autoland capability and authorisation are separate matters.
