## Meaning of Runway

A prepared aerodrome surface used for aircraft takeoff and landing.

### More about Runway

Runways differ in length, width, surface, equipment and allowable loading. Their numbers normally reflect magnetic direction rounded to tens of degrees.

Pilots use published declared distances for performance calculations. The runway's physical length is not necessarily the distance available for every type of operation.
