Irregular air motion causing changes in airflow speed and direction.

Turbulence can produce aircraft motion and changes in acceleration. It can occur near terrain, weather systems, other aircraft or in apparently clear air.

Intensity and operational effects vary. Wearing the seat belt when seated helps reduce injury risk during unexpected movement, and crews assess the actual weather and operating conditions.
