# Aircraft maintenance technicianAircraft maintenance technician

It maintains the aircraft according to the documentation, checks the systems and records the work performed.

## Work and training

The aircraft technician conducts inspections, searches for malfunctions and performs the provided service. Work may refer to design, engines, chassis, or other systems. Even a small repair requires compliance with documentation, the right tool and a record of the result.

Specialization and powers depend on the preparation, admission and type of equipment. First of all, physics, technical reading and accuracy are useful. The training program is evaluated together with the practice and the possibility of further development of a particular aircraft. Working in aviation requires constant updating of knowledge when changing equipment and procedures.

## Service between flights and in the hangar

Line maintenance is associated with the readiness of the aircraft for the next flight: inspections, search for comments and provided work in the parking lot. Basic maintenance is performed in longer cycles and can include disassembly, detailed design checks, and large system work.

One technician doesn’t necessarily serve the entire aircraft. Tasks are distributed according to qualifications, specialties and authorized powers. Design, engines, electrical systems and electronic equipment require different knowledge, and a complex amount of work is carried out by a team with an installed control system.

## From a comment to a confirmed result

The work begins with an accurate description of the condition: what the crew observed, when the remark arose and what conditions preceded it. The technician then uses the current documentation to determine the verification sequence. Replacing the part without understanding the cause can leave a malfunction or create a new remark.

The completed operation must be checked and reflected in the documents. The recording links the specific aircraft, the work done, the materials used and the responsible specialist. In aviation, the technical result and traceability of this result are equally important: the next crew and shift are based on the information drawn up.

## Tools, materials and documentation

The technician works with measuring equipment, special tools and consumables provided for a particular operation. The serviceability and suitability of the tool, the identification of the part and compliance with storage conditions are important. Externally similar components are not necessarily interchangeable.

The documentation is updated, so the experience does not replace checking the applicable version and configuration of the aircraft. For the maintenance of a business jet, it is especially useful to understand the differences between modifications of one model. Two similar boards may have different equipment, completed improvements and the composition of permissible works.

## How Training Is Built

Training includes aircraft construction, materials, power plants, electrical engineering and maintenance practices. Preparation for independent work requires experience and confirmed competencies. The scope of rights to perform and confirm works is determined by the current system of the country and the powers of the organization.

For example, the European Part-66 system distinguishes between areas of qualification; its categories cannot be automatically transferred to documents of another country. When choosing a program, it is important to find out how training is related to practice, admission to the type of aircraft and future duties. The course's beautiful title does not yet describe the graduate's professional credentials.

## Work environment and development

Service is performed in the hangar and on the open platform, sometimes at night and in adverse weather. Work requires accuracy, the transfer of information between shifts and the ability to stop at uncertainty. The system condition shall be assumed to give way to a routine check.

With experience, you can specialize in a specific type of aircraft, engines, design or diagnostics. Other areas relate to service planning, training and quality control. Career is reasonable to estimate by the availability of practice and organization of technical work, and not only by the brand of the employer's aircraft.

## Questions about this career

<details>

<summary>Is the engineer and the engineer the same thing?

</summary>

The technician maintains the existing aircraft according to the applicable documentation. A design engineer develops and validates design solutions; roles can interact, but require different training.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is the experience on one model suitable for another?

</summary>

General knowledge helps, but specific jobs require appropriate qualifications and understanding of the type device. The external similarity of the aircraft does not replace the training.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why are there so many records?

</summary>

They ensure traceability of the technical condition and actions of specialists. They rely on the crews, the next shifts and the organization of service.
