Meaning of Black box
The common name for an aircraft's protected flight recorders.
More about Black box
The recorders are normally brightly coloured to help recovery, despite the familiar name. FDR records flight parameters and CVR records cockpit audio.
Investigators use the recordings alongside other evidence. A recorder is not an automatic explanation of an event: its data still require recovery, validation and interpretation.
