The main flight phase between climb and descent.

During cruise the aircraft follows its route at selected altitudes or flight levels. Crews monitor speed, fuel use, weather and navigation.
Cruise does not imply an unchanging altitude or speed. As mass falls, a higher cleared level may become suitable, while winds and traffic restrictions affect the chosen profile.
