A glide path describes the aircraft's vertical approach towards the runway. Pilots monitor height along the approach to remain on the intended descent profile.
An ILS can provide separate vertical and lateral guidance. Being aligned with the runway does not necessarily mean the aircraft is on the correct glide path.
