The aircraft's speed relative to the Earth's surface.

Ground speed describes how quickly the aircraft progresses over the ground and is used when estimating travel time.
It combines motion through the air with the effect of wind. The same true airspeed can therefore produce different ground speeds on opposite-direction flights.
