Anti-icing acts to prevent an accumulation; de-icing removes ice that has already formed. Aircraft use different combinations of heating, fluid or mechanical methods.
The protected surfaces and operating limitations vary by design. The presence of ice protection does not mean an aircraft is suitable for every icing condition.
