The component of wind blowing in the aircraft's direction of travel.

At a given true airspeed, a tailwind increases ground speed and can reduce journey time.
It also affects takeoff and landing performance. A favourable wind en route must not be confused with a suitable runway wind component; crews apply the aircraft's limits and performance calculations.
