The distance at which an object can be seen and recognised.

Visibility is reported separately from cloud height: good horizontal visibility does not guarantee a high ceiling, or vice versa. Fog, precipitation, haze and dust can reduce it.
Crews compare reported conditions with the applicable procedure minima. Runway visual range, or RVR, may be reported separately.
