About the model

Features G600

  • The Symmetry Flight Deck crew cabin combines side control handles and touch screens.
  • The maximum operating Mach number is 0.925.

The Gulfstream G family combines aircraft of different size classes: when choosing, a specific modification is important, the number of cabin zones and the conditions in which the range is measured.

Model profile

G600: history and features

The current G500 and G600 were introduced in 2014 and the smaller G400 in 2021. Deliveries of the G500 began in 2018, the G600 - in 2019. These aircraft belong to the new generation of Gulfstream.

Programme development

The G500 and G600 became the basis of the new generation after the long history of the G450 and G550. The G400 joined it later as a smaller aircraft. The overall technological base does not make the three models the same: the length of the fuselage, the fuel supply and the calculated route profile change.

Design

The family uses new wings and Pratt & Whitney Canada engines; models vary in size and range. The designations G400 and G500 have previously been found in other Gulfstreams, so it is important to specify a generation.

Technical features

The new generation received electric remote control, feedback side handles and engines of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 family. The G400 is shorter than the modern G500 and G600; the same historical designation Gulfstream can refer to a completely different machine.

Purpose and uses

For passengers, the differences are especially noticeable in the number and length of cabin zones, and for flight planning, in the range at a specific load. Old Gulfstreams with the same indexes are found in archival publications; the date of the material and the generation must be checked before using any numbers.

Its place in the family

The G600 is a larger and longer-range model of the family compared to the new G500.

The platform and its development

The modern G500 and G600 have opened a new generation of Gulfstream with electric remote control, active side handles and Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 engines. The G400 later expanded the family down in size. The three models differ in cabin length, fuel capacity and published range. The Symmetry Flight Deck cabin combines common solutions, but the pilot still needs to know the limitations of the exact version and its equipment.

The designations G400 and G500 were also found in older aircraft associated with the Gulfstream IV and V lines. Therefore, the year and generation here is not a formality, but a condition for a correct comparison. Inside the modern three, the choice is determined by the number of cabin zones and the duration of the flight: a small group may not use all the capabilities of the larger G600, and a long route requires its own fuel reserve. The published maximum range always refers to the specific loading and cruising conditions.

Space in the salon

The G600 has a published cabin height of 1.88 m, width - 2.31 m, length - 13.77 m. Height helps to assess the convenience of movement along the aisle, width - the space between the seats. These are the dimensions of the cabin, not the free passage: decoration, furniture and the location of the seats affect the feeling of spaciousness. For a specific board, it is worth looking at the plan and photos of the interior.

Which means distance.

For the G600, the catalogue shows a maximum range of 12,223 km (6,600 nautical miles). Terms of the published calculation: cruising mode Mach 0.85, reserve NBAA IFR. This is a benchmark for comparison, not a promise of non-stop travel with any number of passengers. The oncoming wind, airspace bypasses, a lot of luggage and a supply of fuel for care at another airfield change the possible route. Maximum capacity and maximum range cannot be automatically added to a single scenario.

Luggage and travel preparation

The specified volume of the luggage compartment G600 is 4.96 m3. It is impossible to translate it into the exact number of suitcases without the size of bags: the shape of the compartment, the opening of the door and the permissible weight are important. Skis, baby carriages or equipment should be matched in size. Separately, the availability of baggage in flight is specified - the volume of the compartment itself does not say anything about it.

Position on the range among the models of the manufacturer

Gulfstream's G600 catalogue lists 6,600 nautical miles. Among the 12 models of the manufacturer of the same type with a published range, the aircraft takes 7th place when sorting from a smaller value to a larger one. The nearest G550 has 6,750 nautical miles published: the difference is 150 nautical miles, or about 2% of the comparable model. This shows the scale of the difference more accurately than the conditional division of aircraft into “medium” and “long-range”. For the current model, this is a comparison of passport values; a separate flight is planned according to the actual mass and weather conditions.

Proportion of salon in comparison

The G600 has a length of 13.77 m, a width of 2.31 m and a height of 1.88 m. These three sizes describe different properties: length determines how many separate groups of furniture can be placed, and width and height affect the convenience of each zone. For comparison, the G450 published a length of 13.74 m, a width of 2.24 m and a height of 1.88 m. The difference in length is 0.03 m; it can affect the ability to separate the working group of seats from the rest area. The width differs by 0.07 m, which is important for the location of seats and passage. The comparison relates to the dimensions of the empty cabin, and not to the available area after installing the kitchen, partitions and seats.

Capacity and payload

The G600 has a maximum passenger capacity of 19 people. The G550 has up to 16 passengers. The difference is 3 seats; this can change the composition of the group or allow you to give up part of the seats for the sake of a freer layout. The luggage volume of the G600 is 4.96 m3. For G550 published 4.81 m3; difference 0.15 m3. When comparing aircraft, a combination of passengers, fuel and luggage should be checked: the maximum figure for each of these parameters usually describes different design cases. It is this combination that determines how much the published range fits a group with a specific number of things.

Close to Model Capabilities

The G600 is part of the Gulfstream G line. When sorted by published range, the closest are the G550 (6,750 nautical miles, up to 16 passengers), G650 (7,000 nautical miles, up to 19 passengers), G650ER (7,500 nautical miles, up to 19 passengers). These options differ not only in the route: the number of seats, cabin proportions and the generation of equipment have to be compared separately. If you need another passenger or more luggage, the close range of two aircraft does not mean equal suitability for the trip. If the decisive is the airfield, additionally compare the runway restrictions of specific modifications. For the released board, the year of manufacture, installed avionics and the actual interior are significant.

The history of Gulfstream: from Grumman to long-haul travel

Gulfstream began within the American company Grumman. The Gulfstream I, a turboprop designed for business travel, first flew in 1958 and entered service in 1959. The jet-powered Gulfstream II opened the next chapter: the company began developing aircraft that could carry passengers faster and farther while retaining a spacious cabin.

Savannah, Georgia, has been Gulfstream’s home since 1967. Today, Gulfstream Aerospace is part of General Dynamics. Over the decades, the brand has developed its own approach to large business jets, advancing range and speed alongside cockpit design, crew equipment and support throughout the aircraft’s operating life.

Engineering philosophy: making travel time useful

The G700 illustrates Gulfstream’s approach. Its cabin can be divided into several zones for meetings, dining and sleeping. Large oval windows bring in natural light, the ventilation system supplies fresh outside air, and the cabin is pressurised to a low altitude even when the aircraft is flying high above the ground. These features are designed for journeys in which passengers spend many hours on board.

The other side of this philosophy is the pilots’ workspace. The G700 uses the Symmetry Flight Deck, with active sidesticks and touchscreen interfaces. Automation helps the crew manage information through the different phases of flight. The manufacturer also develops its service network: for an owner, access to maintenance matters alongside the aircraft’s capabilities.

How the brand’s ideas appear in its models

The G280 belongs to the super-midsize class, while the G650ER, G700 and G800 are intended for longer intercontinental routes. Range, dimensions and the number of cabin zones vary within the family. Features described for the G700 cannot automatically be assumed to apply to other generations.

When choosing a Gulfstream, compare the journey’s duration with the opportunities for rest on board. Separate zones are particularly useful when some passengers are working while others sleep. The exact variant and layout matter more than the brand name alone: the G650 and G650ER, for example, have different range capabilities.
