British Airways has announced special Avios-Only flights from London Heathrow to Palma on Majorca and Heraklion on Crete in summer 2027. Departure is scheduled for August 14, return – August 21. All seats on these flights are offered to British Airways Club members for Avios with a cash supplement. Conditions announced apply to a specific selection of dates and not to the airline's entire island schedule. Sales opened on October 22, 2026; Availability varies as bookings are made.
The main feature of Avios-Only is the distribution of seats: the entire plane is allocated for a bonus booking, rather than a limited number of seats on a regular flight. At the same time, the trip remains tied to specific dates and availability. To understand such an offer, it is useful to separate the bonus points, the cash part and the travel calendar. It is these three elements that determine the practical meaning of booking, and not one attractive number in an advertising headline.
What an all-reward flight means
On a regular flight, the airline may sell some seats for money and allocate some for certain bonus booking methods. The Avios-Only format refers to an individual flight where all seats are available in the specified bonus format. This changes the initial supply of places, but does not make them endless. When passengers issue tickets, the balance decreases. Having a whole plane available when sales open does not guarantee empty seats a few days or months later.
It is also important to distinguish a special flight from the entire destination. There may be other flights with different conditions between London and the Island. Airport matches do not carry over the bonus offer to any time. Therefore, you should first determine the exact date and flight, then look at the available classes and conditions. The general route map answers the question of where the carrier flies. A specific search result answers another question: which product can be purchased for the selected trip now.
A price with two components
Bonus bookings may include Avios and a cash supplement. These quantities must be read together. Specifying a small amount of money does not mean free transportation: the passenger also uses accumulated program units. They are not equal to regular currency and can have different uses. Therefore, the conclusion about the convenience of the offer requires taking into account the entire exchange, and not just the amount that needs to be additionally debited from the bank card during registration.
Let's present a hypothetical example without reference to current tariffs. One option requires more bonus points and a lower copay, the other requires fewer points and more money. Comparing just the money line will give an incomplete picture. Likewise, having a sufficient balance does not solve the calendar issue: the required dates may not be available. This is a description of the mechanics of choice, and not a universal recommendation on how to spend bonuses. Personal results depend on the availability and real plans of the person.
What's announced for Mallorca and Crete
For a return trip to Palma, the announced Euro Traveller economy offer is 28,000 Avios plus £5. For Heraklion, it is 33,500 Avios plus £5. Club Europe prices are 49,000 Avios plus £40 for Mallorca and 60,000 Avios plus £40 for Crete. These figures apply to the announced offer and must be distinguished from other flights or any guarantee of availability when the article is read.
When checking a reservation, it is important to maintain the correct scale of comparison: one passenger or several, one destination or round trip, one class or a combination of classes. A small error in these initial conditions makes the final figures incomparable. It is especially important for families to check for enough seats on both segments. The presence of several seats on a departure does not confirm that the same group will be able to return together on the selected date and category of service.
The travel dates matter more than the headline appeal
Special flights are limited to the week between 14 and 21 August. This interval may work well for some travelers and may not suit the plans of others. It’s a good idea to coordinate your vacation, accommodations, and ground transportation before you check out. A bonus seat handles the air portion of the trip, but does not automatically book a hotel. On popular dates, it is the combination of all the elements that determines whether a travel plan will be convenient and feasible.
For example, a hypothetical family might find suitable seats but discover that its accommodation accepts arrivals only on another date. Another passenger may land too late for the last ground connection. These examples show why a ticket should not be evaluated on its own. Calculate the complete itinerary first, then assess whether the special flight suits the trip.
Programme membership and seat availability
The announcement is addressed to British Airways Club members. When registering, the corresponding account and the current program rules are used. However, participation and the presence of a sufficient balance do not confirm free space. Successful issuance of a ticket with specific segments is required. It is useful to distinguish between a preliminary search result, an intermediate stage of registration and a completed reservation. Availability may change between dates, especially when multiple people choose the same dates.
For a group, it is worth carefully checking the names, dates and composition of passengers before completing the operation. After registration, confirmation and conditions for further changes are important. These actions are equally significant for cash and bonus tickets. The payment format does not replace the need to check transportation details. News about an expanded offer helps raise awareness of the opportunity, but it doesn't make the reader's booking or secure a spot before the checkout is actually completed.
Ticket conditions remain a separate issue
Changes, refunds and additional services depend on the particular ticket conditions. They cannot be inferred from the Avios-Only name or the cash contribution. Onward travel needs the same care: a reward flight does not turn a separately booked connection into a protected through journey. The reservation’s actual terms determine those arrangements.
Separately, it is worth checking your luggage and the selected class. Services may be included in the published offer, but their scope must be compared with the real needs of the group. The more different elements are processed separately, the more useful it is to have a single list of confirmations and times. This is an organizational issue that helps not to lose the meaning of an offer that is advantageous at first glance. The convenience of the trip is manifested in the consistency of details, and not just in the method of payment for the air segment.
How to assess the new reward-flight selection
For the airline, special bonus flights are a way to offer program members additional seats on selected dates. For the passenger, this is another option for using already accumulated units. However, the offering does not create the same value for everyone: people have different balance sheets, calendars and needs. It's important to evaluate its applicability to your trip without assuming that any rewards transaction is automatically better or worse than a regular cash ticket.
New flights to Mallorca and Crete expand this choice. Their specific parameters are clear: two island destinations from Heathrow, a week in August 2027 and bonus seats throughout the plane. Further decisions depend on availability at the time of registration and full travel arrangements. Checking the dates, group composition, money and conditions allows you to turn the news about the loyalty program into a clear plan that can be compared with other travel options.
